Pie Contest

As we celebrate America250, we're honoring the traditions that bring us together—and nothing says Americana quite like homemade pie!

The As American as Pie Contest invites bakers of all ages and experience levels to showcase their favorite homemade pie. Whether it's a treasured family recipe passed down through generations or a new creation inspired by America's rich agricultural heritage, we want to see what makes your pie uniquely American.

Join us in celebrating 250 years of American history, community, and home baking. Share your best pie, compete for ribbons , and help us celebrate one of our nation's sweetest traditions. We can't wait to see—and taste—your slice of America!

Location: Demonstration Kitchen in the Zion Building

1. All pies must be homemade and baked by the person entering the contest.
2. Pies must be prepared in a home kitchen and may not be commercially produced or purchased.
3. Each contestant may enter one pie to be judged.
4. Please bring 2 copies of your recipe, one with contact info and one without.
5. Pies should be fully baked and ready for judging. Decorations and garnishes must be completed before check-in.
6. Cream, custard, and other perishable pies must be transported and stored safely until check-in.
7. Judges will evaluate entries based on appearance, crust, filling, flavor, and overall quality. Judges' decisions are final.
8. By entering the contest, participants grant the fair permission to photograph their pies and use those images for promotional purposes.
9. Entries that do not comply with the rules may be disqualified.
10. Judging Criteria
• Appearance, Presentation & Originality– 20%
• Crust – 25%
• Filling – 35%
• Flavor & Overall Impression – 20%
• The contest is open to any resident, except professional chefs or culinary instructors.
• All recipes and entries become the property of the Utah State Fair, which reserves the right to edit, adapt, copyright, publish, or advertise the recipes and the names of the contestants without compensation.
• Taxes are the responsibility of the winner.
• With entry submission, you accept all Contest rules and agree to be bound by the judge's decisions, which will be final.
• A W9 will be required from any winning contestants.
