4-H & FFA Dairy Goats

This show is open to all purebred and recorded grades registered or recorded in the American Goat Society, Canadian Goat Society and the American Dairy Goat Association that are bona fide 4-H or FFA projects. Utah 4-H and FFA memebrs who own and/or help care for dairy goats throughout the year may be eligible to enter. Youth who help care for goat for shorter periods of time, which are owned by someone else, are not eligible to participate in the Utah State Fair 4-H & FFA Dairy Goat Show. Record books may be checked.

Exhibitors are required to read and abide by the Jr Livestock General Rules and Livestock General Rules.

Eligibility:
1. Exhibitors may exhibit animals that are not registered in their name, but the animals must be their project animals with record books kept accordingly.
2. All registration papers must be checked by the show secretary upon your arrival. If this is not done, those animals whose papers have not been checked will be considered scratched and will not be allowed to show. Checking in of papers is the responsibility of the exhibitor. Any changes must be done at check-in, not on the day of the show!

Miscellaneous:
1. Any doe that has ever freshened or is being milked regularly shall compete in the Sr Doe Division. This includes dry and precocious milkers.
2. Any doe 24 months of age or over that has freshened shall not be shown.
3. Only Recorded Grade, Natives on Performance, Natives on Appearance, Experimentals and Grade Experimentals shall be shown in the class call Recorded Grades.
4. Because of space limitations, only animals that are entered in this show will be housed in the barn.
5. All animals will be inspected before unloading. Goats with abscesses or other communicable disease will not be allowed on the grounds.
6. Pre-show milkout will be handled per ADGA rules. These and other rules under Open Show, also apply to this show.
7. Please write tattoos under the “Breed” heading on the entry form. Write in the breed initials under the “Class” heading on the entry form.
8. The Junior and Senior Shows are separately sanctioned.
9. The show order is subject to change to insure the show runs smoothly and efficiently.

17. Dam & Daughter, any age. Dam must be named.
18. Best 3 females – 3 does, any age, owned by exhibitor. One entry per exhibitor.
19. Udder Class – The judge will have discretion of specifying animals from each of the Senior Doe lots to return for judging in this lot.

Special Awards:
1. Jr Best Doe In Show – Gran Champions from each breed class competing – Trophy
2. Sr Best Doe In Show – Grand Champions from each breed class competing – Trophy
3. Best Udder in Show – Trophy
4. One barn prize of $30 will be awarded
5. Premier Exhibitor – Trophy presented by Utah Dairy Goat Association
6. Best FFA Chapter exhibit of goats, to be determined on a money point basis – Trophy given at State Convention

4-H & FFA Dairy Goats: Each exhibitor must show his or her own project animal and the judge shall require the exhibitors to switch animals during judging.
ADGA Showmanship Award Certificate shall be made at any official show or at any show judged by an official ADGA judge, even if the show itself is not official.
You will be judged on how you appear, answer questions put forth by the judge and how well you control your animal, 4-H & FFA will show together.
4-H & FFA Market Goats: Exhibitors must have an animal entered in the 4-H & FFA Market Goat Department to be eligible to participate in showmanship, and must show their entered animal. Exhibitors will be judged on compliance to dress code as well as ability to show the animal.

Rules:
1. Exhibitors must have owned animal 60 days prior to Sept 11.
2. Exhibitors must show and sell their own animal(s).
3. Minimum weight for market goats = 40 lbs
4. Goats will be grouped in uniform lots by weight.
5. Wether and doe kids shall be shown together.
6. There may be no evidence of breaking of skin or eruption of two permanent front teeth. Milk teeth must be in place.
7. Exhibitors will be required to have goats horns tipped. Dehorning is acceptable.
8. Goats must be slick shorn with 3/8” of hair or less (above knees and hocks) at time of arrival.
9. Exhibitors will be allowed to use halters or collars in the showring. No training collars allowed.
10. Goats must be uncovered at weigh-in.
11. Any goat identified by the show vet as showing signs of fungus must be removed from the Fairpark immediately. The decision of the show vet, barn supervisor, or show committee member will be final!

Jr Livestock Auction:

*Exhibitors must submit a properly completed Declaration Form to the Livestock Office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, declaring their intent for each animal they showed.
Champion and Reserve Champion must sell. Each exhibitor will be limited to selling one animal only in the sale. Animals not eligible for the sale will be the responsibility of the exhibitor.
